According to the National Safety Council, workplace drug use costs employees not only their health and safety, it also levies a significant financial burden on employers. Meridian’s K9 Division does more than narcotic and explosives detection, it helps ensure a safe workplace for our clients.
On Tuesday, Nov 13, Officer Sarah Ahrens and K9 Beau of Meridian’s K9 Division conducted a routine patrol in the south parking lot of a project site. K9 Beau alerted on a vehicle to the possible presence of illicit substances. Upon searching the vehicle it was discovered that the vehicle contained a large amount of marijuana and possible controlled prescription medication, including a digital scale. On-site security and State Police confirmed and apprehended the driver of the vehicle.
On Thursday, Nov 15, Officer Ahrens and K9 Beau conducted a routine patrol of a parking lot of the same project site. After approximately 30 minutes of searching the area, K9 Beau alerted on a vehicle prompting a search. When the driver of the vehicle arrived to observe the search the driver of the suspected vehicle confirmed illicit drugs had been used in the vehicle, however, the driver admitted the use was by his nephew who he claimed uses marijuana.
Officer Ahrens and K9 Beau’s success on the LACC project site provides a clear and substantial deterrent to the use and presence of illicit substances on the site.
